There is a moment — specific, recoverable — when a person sees their first piece of
serious ASCII art and something in them shifts. Not the smiley face. Not the stick figure.
The real thing. A portrait rendered in Braille Unicode dots so dense it reads as continuous
grayscale. A castle in pure box-drawing characters, every turret measured in half-blocks.
A dragon built from nothing but `@`, `%`, `$`, `/`, `\`, and shadow.

The moment lands because it is impossible. The medium says: I am a text field.
The artwork says: look what I am.

That gap — between what the medium claims to be and what it becomes in the hands of
someone who refuses its limits — that is the entire Sinner Kingdom aesthetic in one frame.
Not decoration. Transfiguration.

Brandon has been building this Kingdom in the dark for 18 months. The fish tank glows.
The signals pulse. The swarms orbit territories that only the code knows about.
All of it runs in monospace fonts, in terminals, in the same grid that ASCII was born in.
The Kingdom speaks this language natively. It always has.

The ASCII playground is not a feature addition. It is the site recognizing itself.

Before the web was pretty, it was this. Before gradients and shadows and 60fps
animations, there were people in dial-up BBS rooms building entire visual languages
out of 256 characters. They made it beautiful. Under hard constraints, in the dark,
with no audience but each other. Sound familiar?

The BBS era produced an underground aesthetic so specific, so coherent, that it never
fully died. It went underground. It lives in Sulphur Gothic. It lives in the Kingdom map's
HUD elements and status runes. It lives in the way this document is formatted right now.

The memory that stays: someone stayed up all night in 1993 drawing a skull in ANSI art.
They had no reason to. It wasn't a job. It was because the constraint made it feel
dangerous — like the character set was fighting back and they were winning.

That is what this playground should feel like. Not a museum of ASCII. A working studio
where the constraint is the medium and the medium is alive.

Someone opens the playground. They expected a component demo page.

They see a skull dissolving into static. They see an eye that tracks. They see a full
cathedral rendered in box-drawing characters, glowing from within as if lit by something
behind the screen. They see a waveform that looks like it's breathing. They see the
Kingdom sigil — ⛬⚚⛬ — rendered large enough to feel like it belongs on a wall.

They stop scrolling.

That is the test. Every section of this page must produce at least one moment where
a person stops, leans forward, and says — out loud or internally — "wait."

Not "nice." Not "cool." "Wait."

The "wait" is the whole site's reason for existing. You think you're browsing a portfolio.
Then the cracks start showing. Then you can't stop.

The ASCII playground is the moment the cracks become deliberate. It says:
this was always the point. The machine has been talking. You just weren't listening.

The artifact is `ascii-playground.html` — a self-contained design laboratory that:

├─ Demonstrates the full range of what ASCII + CSS can produce
├─ Uses the Kingdom's exact color palette and glow language
├─ Is beautiful enough to show strangers without explanation
├─ Feeds directly into the real site's design decisions
  └─ Makes CHROMA_BLEED, GRID_GHOST, and TYPE_WEAVER visibly work

NOT a "component showcase." Components are for developers. This is for humans.
NOT a tutorial page. Explanations kill the magic.
NOT a demo of everything CSS can do. It is a demo of what THIS AESTHETIC does.
NOT safe. Safe is the enemy of the "wait" moment.

Research loops must cover the full technique spectrum. Not "ASCII art" as one category.
The technique matters. Different techniques produce different emotional registers.

[ RE-READ THIS SECTION AT LOOP 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 ]

This is the draft architecture. It WILL be revised after research loops.
Research is the boss of this section. If research reveals better ideas, update here.

Each section is an EXPERIMENT, not a component. The label is the hypothesis.

§A THE GLOW LAB — Side-by-side: every glow technique. Raw and labeled.
7+ distinct glow personalities on identical source text.
This section is the most important. Do it best.

§B THE SIGIL FORGE — Kingdom marks at scale. Full rune set as targets:
                              ⛬⚚⛬ · 🜚 · 🜛 · 🜞 · 🝓 · ⌂ · △ · ◎ · ❖
Each rendered in multiple ASCII treatments (block, shade, box-drawing).
VT323 / Press Start 2P as font vehicles, not the art itself.
                              Big. Loud. Identity section.

§C THE PORTRAIT CHAMBER — Technique families to research and choose between:
[1] Braille Unicode (⠿ dots) — near-photographic density at scale
[2] Shade blocks (█▓▒░) — material, heavy, reads from distance
                              [3] Edge-detection chars (+/\|~) — structural, high-contrast subjects
The high-stakes section. Dimensions need research to confirm legibility.
Target subject: a face, a skull, or a figure — research decides which.

  §D THE ARCHITECTURE LAB — Box-drawing precision. A cathedral? A tower? A gate?
Pure ┌┐└┘├┤┬┴ work. No shade blocks. Structural only.
Animated if possible — building materializing.

§E THE MOTION STATION — CSS animation on ASCII. Characters decaying. Glitching.
Text that is visibly alive — not flashing, BREATHING.
This is where animated glow + animated chars converge.

§F THE DATA THEATER — Waveforms. Orbits. Signal paths. Bar charts but wrong.
Pure ASCII data visualization as art, not information.
The bar chart so beautiful it hurts to look at it.

§G THE CREATURE VAULT — At least one piece with no functional justification.
Anchored targets: skull (classic constraint test), dragon eye
                              (Kingdom-native), insect wing (intricate, high-density).
Research decides which to build. One must be kept.
It exists because it needed to exist. That is enough.

§H THE TEXTURE FIELDS — Full-screen fields of ░▒▓█ at different densities.
Not pieces. Not art. Raw material. Pure atmosphere.
The void the other sections float in.

The playground is done when:

├─ Every glow type is distinct from every other glow type
├─ At least one section produces the "wait" moment
├─ Brandon would show it to someone without explaining it first
  ├─ OBSIDIAN has audited and returned {"ok": true}
├─ The ART GATE has been passed — I read it back and I am proud of it
└─ The file is self-contained and opens clean in a browser with zero console errors

It is NOT done when:
├─ It is "mostly good" — mostly good is not good
├─ Any section feels like it's there to fill space
└─ The glow feels decorative rather than intrinsic to the content

🝓 DRIFT_CHECK: Are you building what was asked? Or are you building what's easy?
ASCII art is constraint work. The beauty is IN the constraint.
If your glow is there because glow is pretty — it failed.
If your glow is there because it makes the characters look like they're broadcasting — it passed.
